Abstract:

In recent years, much experimental effort has focused on fabricating three-dimensional photonic crystals that have a complete photonic band gap at optical frequencies. Due to these efforts, it is now appropriate to ask how one might experimentally verify a complete band gap in such a structure. Here we discuss some aspects of this issue. In particular, we consider the challenges and potential solutions for photonic crystals made by the so-called self-assembly methods.(41 References)
